Solving Supply Chain Challenges with Direct-to-School Uniform Provision
The Challenge
St Botolphs Primary School was struggling with an all-too-common issue: supply and demand mismanagement from their previous uniform provider.
- Long delays were becoming the norm and communication with the supplier was difficult.
- Parents were growing increasingly frustrated that uniform was not ready for the start of term
- Orders were being mixed up or cancelled at the last minute
- Collections were challenging –they could only be made on two specified days of the week.
- Staff were fielding complaints and spending time resolving uniform issues – diverting attention away from pupils
The school recognised that something had to change to reduce pressure on staff and rebuild parent trust in the supply of new uniform.
The Solution
In early 2024, Schoolwear Solutions met with St Botolphs Primary School PTA to explore an alternative model: direct-to-school supply.
Instead of relying on an external market trader with unpredictable stock, the new setup gave control back to the school:
- Uniforms are sold directly to the school, allowing stock to be held on site
- The PTA can easily communicate with parents and handle uniform purchases face-to-face
- The purchase of uniform for Pupil Premium students is easier – they order direct and school are invoiced for the cost
- Uniforms are available at drop-off and pick-up times, making it easier than ever for families to buy what they need once a month.
